2 Chronicles Introduction - King James Version (KJV)

Synopsis:
Second Chronicles was written sometime after Judah returned from their Babylonian exile in ~537 BC and composed as one book with First Chronicles. (1 Chr 9:1-2; 2 Chr 36:23). The first 9 chapters show how wonderful things were under Solomon but after this the book turns to discussing Southern Judah's failure to keep the Law after the Kingdom divided under Rehoboam. At times, Godly kings would arise reforming the nation to get the people back into right standing with God, but would continue to apostasise once those good kings would die. The book closes with the Exile period ending and Cyrus' declaration for exiles to return to their land and begin rebuilding the Temple.
